Author visit to school

  1. On May 26th Maria Gill visited school to talk about her books and hold writing workshops with year 5 and 6 children.
It was a very interesting day as she has written many intriguing books, short stories and articles.
Some examples which we have in the library are: 'Dogs on the job,' 'Birds' eye view', and 'Operation Nest Egg' She has 2 others just published - 'Save our seas' and 'Rangitoto.'

Her website is one of the best I have seen.

which was designed by the artist Heather Arnold.

NZ Post Children's Book Awards 2009

The winners were announced at 6 p.m. on May 20. There is a list and pictures of them in the library. Nearly all the books are issued so they must be good!
Children's choice was "The Were-Nana"; are you surprised?

Author visit : Cathy Cassidy

Some of the older girls already read her books. She will be in North Shore City on Monday 25 May 6 p.m. at Takapuna Library. If you are in year 6 you will probably enjoy this - and there will be treats! Guess what they might be!

Why have a blog?

So we can communicate.  I can post up interesting items or games.

To build a community.

Can you think of more reasons?
Send me a post.

Auckland Harbour Bridge

The 50th anniversary of the opening of the bridge is on 30 May 2009.
There are some adults in the school who can remember walking across it on the day!!! Maybe you or your parents know someone who did that.

In the library we have 2 new copies of the anniversary edition of  "Guardian of the Bridge" with lots of interesting facts included plus a brand new history of the bridge.

Meaning of blog

Blog just means web log - like a diary and newsletter online. Anyone can set one up at blogger.com as long as you have set up an email address.

Welcome, Nau Mai, Haere Mai!

This is for you, the students at Sunnynook :
- to let others know if you have read a great book
- or you would like Mrs Soutar to buy a good book for the library
- or there is an activity you would like us to do in the library
- or you may think of another interesting thing to do with the blog.

Did you know you can already come to read, write and draw on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday lunchtimes and every morning tea time?
You can also listen to stories on the CD player or tape player, play computer games, or use kidpix, finish school work or change the books you have finished reading.
